Post Relocating seat air tank
I have removed the seat air tank from under the radio box shelf and have located it behind the right side cover, under the seat. I have made pictures of this but do not know how to post them. If anyone is interested and will instruct me how to post the pictures, I will gladly post them. It is a real simple procedure and should work on any 2009 model, and possible some other models.

Have you uploaded your photo to any website e.g. photobucket? All you need to do is to type the tag "[img]"

then add the web address for your photo e.g. "http://www.mywebspace.com/myphoto.jpg"

and then close the tag by typing

"[/img]"

Or if you scroll down on the message box when you reply to this - you will see an upload attachment option. Click "browse" to find your image and then click "add attachment". When it has uploaded click the button to place it "in line" or similar.

Adam:
Unless you have not already noticed, I am not computer literate at all. I read, and appreciate, your instructions, but they really don't make much sense to me. I assuame that photo bucket is a program. I have a "My Pictures" program on my computer, and either keep my pictures in there or in "my Documents."When I send pictures on an other forum, I send my e-mail address, have the person who wants the picture send me an e-mail and I reply by attaching a picture which I keep in my documents. That's the only way I can do it. However, I really need to learn if I am going to be active on any forum. I also need to know how to post an "avitar." (I assume that means a picture unique to the sender.) Someone replied to my post with a PM, which I recognize as a personal messasge, but I have not been successful in opening it. Can you remember, it only took me three days to register successfully on this forum, and you had to help me! Thanks, pastor bill

Post Re: Relocating seat air tank
I've got the same seat/tank etc. Out of curiosity, is this the air pump required to fill the tank? my bike was shipped empty & just looking to see what i can use to fill it up. i've heard that hooking it up to compressed air is bad bad..

is there an obvious (cheaper) alternative to this one on the HD site?

A bicycle type air pump works fine for the air seat tank. You will loose a bit of air while diconnecting the pump from the valve (you'll see it on the tank gauge). Just adjust as necessarry. The high priced H-D hand pump is very good for the air suspension.

thanks! i'll probably need one for the suspension. i've got a friend w/ a Street Glide, so we're just going to split the cost & start fighting about who gets to keep it ;)

The pump is about $30 on ebay. Comes with a gauge too.

I just got my HD Hand Pump, and it works great... I tested it by running up the air ride solo seat to 60psi, then bled off the pressure back to 30psi - very handy and easy to operate - no air leakage when connecting / disconnecting the pump...

compact as well, so it can live in the saddle bags.

Post Re: Relocating seat air tank
If you have an 09 with ABS the tank will not fit under the right side cover. I am in the middle of modding my air seat and relocating the tank in the right side bag. I am also using an old small freon can as the air tank. Aerosol cans with a 2Q rating are rated at 185 psig buckle and 270 psig burst. I usually run about 50-60 psig in the air bladder. I drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the right bag where the 1/2 drilled holes for the civilian hinges are. I inserted a rubber grommet and fed the air hose through. I velcroed the air tank to the inside corner of the tank. When I reassemble (hopefully today) I'll take pics and post them here. I have another question though does anyone know if the 4 point quick release mounts will fit under the chrome cover on the rear frame?

So much for the freon can, ripped the nipple out trying to tighten the brass fitting. But I just found the perfect CO2 4oz threaded cartridge made by Crossman. Rated at 3000 psig so the 100 psig max I'll be putting in it won't be an issue. Looks good too gonna paint it Vivid Black and mount it to the Bag Guards.

is it one of those 16g rounded canisters? let me know how that works! i've always wondered why the tank is so big & would love to just switch to something smaller

Post Re: Relocating seat air tank
I have no data regarding the relative volume of the tank to the bladder, but the larger tank would provide more cushion and a more springy ride. Think of it also as a pulse/surge dampener. When you sit on the seat, the compression should increase the air pressure. The tank acts as a dampener. With a smaller tank, the pressure would increase to a higher level and provide a stiffer spring rate / harder ride. I guess it could be possible to get too small of a tank and couple that with too big of a driver going over too big of a bump and maybe some seal gets blown. But I am just speculating.

Yup, that's the one I have. I have it in the (r) saddlebag with the toolkit I carry. It works fine for pumping up the shocks or saddle.
