Anyone have any recommendations on relocating the license plate from the bottom of the rack to somewhere else? i'd like to take the rack off after relocating the tank, but not really sure what to do w/ the license plate. i'd really like to avoid major surgery and drilling, or minimizing any drilling at the best.

i wonder if there is a license plate mount that mounts on the saddle bag bars?

anyone have any thoughts?

It would be very easy to make a bracket to fit to the bag crash bars, if you wanted a light on the plate you just need to wire a small bulb and black out the top half so it only shines down on the plate.

This is not really a relocation but after I took the stock rack off I went with the Harley "layback" license plate holder. I also have the docking points and the two up detachable tour pak rack (Harley). Their instructions say it won't fit with the layback but it does.(I have an older King Tour Pak and the bottom is made different from the new ones, maybe this is why) The guy at the dealship said they made two of these laybacks, this was the one they had in stock. Also it lined up and bolted to the same place the police license plate bracket does. Which is a chrome "u" shaped bar that runs paralell to the fender on both sides and across the back of it. Also unless you replace that bar its gonna have the holes in it. Some of the non police bikes I looked at did not have the holes in them some did with the plates mounted to them. They have a straight up and down one they sell that bolts to the bar, but at least here, they don't stock it. It cost around $20 ordered and the detachable rack will work with it. Both cover the holes and require no drilling.
I've seen some Harley kits were you can relocate it under the tail light. I suppose this includes a new lense with the clear spot on the bottom versus the top. Not sure if they reqire drilling or not but they look pretty nice.

I bought a new taillight assembly from J&P Cycles that had the license plate under the bar. This moved the plate, got rid of the (IMO) too wide taillights and cleaned up the whole rear of the bike. There are a row of LED's under the light bar that light up the license plate. The pictures don't show it, but I finally found a taillight without the clear part on top at the Harley junkyard in Portland. You could also get a smoked lense in a couple of different configurations, but I thought they were too pricey. At the same time I took off the U-shaped bar that is also on the back and replaced it with marker lights on both sides. It was all an easy bolt on, with just a small bit of soldering to finish it off.

I really like that one - I am surprised at how it tidies the fender up! If the police here ever complain about my plate being hidden under the rack (yes they do care about that!) I might consider that instead. Not sure our stupidly big plates would fit in there though
