 radio
I want to put a radio on my electraglide police model. Most radios I have seen require adding the retrofit kit for the controls. I do not want to give up my police controls as I have installed wig wags and a siren. Any suggestions?

 Re: radio
Have you installed your radio yet? I want to do the same but I'm still in the dark with where to start!

 Re: radio
I'm curious about this too. Stock radios are pretty steep and I see no others as real plug and play for Harleys. I've looked at Hawg Tunes and seen only speakers, amps and some wiring harness stuff. I looked for marine stuff as far as radio and speakers also.
I'm leaning towards the marine stuff, hard wired to the battery. Sure it won't have all the fancy controls but will be functional for the times I want it.

 Re: radio
Same here.. just purchased last august and now I'am in the same situation, however I noticed that the accessory plug(cigarette lighter) works, so I was thinking of installing a car radio, and getting the power from the inside of the dash going to the accessory plug???? As far as obtaining handle bar controls, not concerned,, will just use left hand and hopefully not crash..lol.. There where no speakers in my machine, but I see JP Cycles has some for 70 dollars or so designed for my 93. Just a thought. Mike.

 Re: radio
Oh ya... gotta take water into consideration also...either a waterproof like mentioned in previous post or a temp cover in the event of a sudden rain??

 Re: radio
The biketronics kit I got was a sony stereo with the mount (hard rubber blocks to make it fit and reduce effects of vibration)and a plastic cover as a moisture barrier. I had to cut the harness since the police bikes do not have hand controls harness and I wired to cig. lighter power. The kit came with hog tunes speakers not bad but I changed out for Apline for better quality. I would like hand controls in the future but that will cost some more $.

 Re: radio
I ordered the Biketronics kit thrue my Indy friend. I had called Biketronics and they quoted me $380 plus shipping for the kit. My Indy friend originally quoted me $475 for the same with the upgrades. I explained to him I did not care for the upgrades, so he called them and ordered it and got the package deal at $349 plus shipping and tax (your Indy or dealer will charge a state tax if your state has one). I walked out paying $411.56. Your price may vary. I spend alot of money with him and have known him for 30+ years so he gives me a few breaks here and there. Biketronics sells direct also you can view thier products and get thier number here: http://www.biketronics.com/ Expected the system today, maybe tomorrow.

 Re: radio
What did you splice the Yellow (memory wire) to? I got mine installed but I loose memory every time I turn off the ignition.

 Re: radio
That would normally go straight to the battery or a "Power all the time" lead.
Solid Red indicates constant power as does it's fused feed of blue with a gray stripe. Make sure you use a probe first but the diagrams I looked at show those two colors as having constant power.

 Re: radio
With my installation I attached the (thinner) red and black "switched" wires to a unused swithched power wire in the headlight harness (I think it was orange) The cigarette lighter wire is also swithched and will work as well. With the (thicker) yellow unswitched wire, I attached it to a wire that I extended under the tank to the battery terminal. I later found, when installing Heat Deamon grip warmers (that I highly recomend) that there is an unused wire harness running from the battery area under the seat to the fairing. As i recall it contains about 6 unused wires, one if which I attached to a "switched" orange wire under the seat for the grips and another could be used to attach to the battery post and connected to the radio yellow at the other end. Good Luck and if you have any more questions let me know.

 Re: radio
I got the system today. UPS hang up I was told. Anyway the system looks really nice. Ive started reading the instructions and have the radio ready to install. Which I will do in the next day or two. Weather is warming here, but we have rain forecast for the next week or so. One question I have though. The splash guard. I thought it was going to be a flip up type cover. No real instructions on it yet that I have read. So I assume it's just for parking in a down pour or washing the bike. Because it looks as if its just made to hang over the face plate of the radio while parked. Am I missing the instuctions for this part or what?

 Re: radio
Splash guard is for when its parked, at least thats when it works. Lot of reports on other forums of the guard flying off if left on when riding. I just carry mine and put it on when parked and it looks like rain, or, when washing the bike.
