Post My "09"
I purchased this black beauty last June with 11 miles on it! As you can see I'm a bit of a minimalist and like the lack emblems and such. After 42 years of sport/sport-touring bikes and 22 years of roadracing I'm RELAXING!

I did make a few mods. The stereo is a kit from Biketronics Inc. (www.biketronics.com). It included all of the mounting hardware, J&M speakers a Sony BT2700 radio with CD and Bluetooth (bluetooths with my blackberry for phone, stored misic and web radio!), weather cover, and I added the Flexpower in-fairing antenna. It does not have hand controls but I've never really yearned for them and it was SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive than the HD models. I've added the fairing mounted mirrors and a 6" dark windshield, Cruise Mate throttle lock, and Heat Deamon (from Symtec) heated grips, which I absolutely love! I removed the rack and relocated the plate brackets and purchased a Streetglide seat on EBay for $80 as well as the Road King chrome fender brace covers (without the rack holes). Beyond that it's pretty stock but I have plans for Stage 1 and suspension modifications.

That is a good looking ride! I just picked up an '09 myself so I have a couple of quick questions. How do you like the Cruise Mate? It seems like a much simpler option that trying to wire a cruise control just so I can rest my right hand. Also, what bracket did you use to relocate the license plate? Thanks.

very nice! i'm interested in the Cruise Mate as well... the install directions look semi-complicated, but it's probably not at all like that.... (hopefully...)

As for the tail light bracket, I fabracated my own out of two pieces of steel "L" brackets. I drilled and tapped into the bottom of the directional bracket and bolted it in place. I use the lighted plate bolts (20 bucks on Ebay) in place of the tail light option for plate lighting. I also replaced the tail light lens with a Streetglide lens without the clear top section.
The Cruise Mate is great. It works flawlessly and locks the throttle securly while allowing manual adjustment. It's a throttle lock, not a cruise control so it doesn't maintain a steady speed but for getting your hands off the bars for short peroids of time it's perfect. The installation is actually simple and only appears a little daunting because they are so thorough. The owner (one man operation pretty much) is unbelieveable! I called him at 10:00 on a Sunday morning with a question about the fly-by-wire and he was more than happy to help me. Oh by the way I ordered mine on a Thursday morning and it was in my mail box by 1:00 on Friday. How, I have no idea but this guy's all about service.

that's a great idea w/ the license plate bracket! i'd like to remove the light/siren platform, but have to figure out what to do w/ the plate & the compressor....

'drilled through the directional bracket' - you mean the bracket that's already in place, holding the lightbar in place?

The bottom of the chrome directional bar is pretty beefy and you can easily drill two holes (5mm) in the bottom and tap them then bolt the L brackets to that. I'm in NY on business today but I'll be home tomorrow and I'll try to take off my plate and take some pictures for you. I also found relatively easy to relocate the air tank inside of my right saddlebag (although the air seat is off right now) I just enlarged one of the holes in the bracket and secured it with one of the quick release bag mount bolts. The air line is not pinched by the rubber lid gasket. Worked like a charm.

I like it a lot. Your fenders look a lot cleaner without the bumpers. You might think about also getting rid of the saddlebag bars. Some guys just run with the saddlebag crash bars. I went ahead and sold my crashbars and bag rails on ebay and bought streeet glide style saddlebag supports for a clean look.

Here are some photos of the brackets that I made to relocate the plate. I hope they help you. I couldn't remove the plate completely without disconnecting the plate light wires.
